I am on my second child with ETC now. My second grader started using it in K and now my daughter, who is 4, is using ETC 1 for K. I use it as a supplement to another phonics program and the kids love it. They look forward to doing it and always ask to do more pages. Its a great compliment to our curriculum (McRuffy SE K Phonics).

My daughter and I loved the kindergarten books, but this book has been more of a jump from the last books. I have had to explain a lot more of the material to her whereas the other books she really did a lot on her own. But I still like the book.

I am using this as a supplement to Alpha-Phonics to teach my 5 year old daughter to read. I like the lessons. They are black and white, not a lot of fluff. They repeat the same concepts over and over, which is great for sights words when a child is just learning to read. I am not sure I would use this as a stand alone product but for a supplement, it is great. You probably need the teachers manual for the tests. For the lessons, you really don't need it.

This is a great homeschool resource for language arts and phonics review as well as supplemental work for public/ private schooled children. We loved the pretest in the front of the book as a review. My kids were spelling words within days or starting this series.

My son has struggled with reading and he is doing well with this book. I love the way it has him practice spelling as well as read the words.

I absolutely LOVE this book. My son is 4 3/4 and he started this book knowing all of his letters by sight as well as the sounds they make (thank you Leap Frog Letter Factory!). This book has tremendously helped him learn to read. He does 2 pages a day because the activities are just too much to do as a whole lesson at his age. He is almost finished with book one and now the lessons come easy to him. Since he has been using ETC, he has learned to spell CVC words, write his lowercase letters neatly and correctly. I just can't say enough for this book! I agree, the pictures are sometimes not clear to a child - i.e. a person's name and a child wouldn't know that it was a person's name, but I sit beside my son the entire time he works in this book. I have used such examples to point out to him that we know it is a person's name because it starts with a capital letter when all the other words are starting with lowercase ones. I love ETC and will be using these books until there are no more to use!

Not good! unfortunately for my daughter. There are personal names for poor illustrations. Like Pat sat on a mat. My daughter sees a picture of a girl and doesn't know the name Pat. The illustrations are not easy to make out either. Not for an early reader. This book will frustrate you and your child.
